Protect what matters most
Life is complicated enough when you’re fit, well and have a steady income coming in. But we often take our health for granted, especially when we’re younger. No one needs the added financial, practical and emotional problems that an illness can bring. Sometimes, without warning, these things happen and while no one likes to think about becoming seriously ill, it pays to be prepared for the future. Ask yourself, how would I or my family cope if I became seriously ill?
What is specified illness cover?
This type of cover pays you a lump sum amount if you suffer from one of the specified illnesses covered on your plan. Our specified illness cover, also known as Specified Illness Benefit, pays you a lump sum on diagnosis of some of today’s most common illnesses. You can spend the lump sum however you like to maintain your standard of living or to help you and your family cope financially during a difficult time.
You choose the amount of cover you need and how to use it. For example, if you suffered one of the specified illnesses covered, the payout could go towards meeting your mortgage and loan repayments or everyday bills and expenses, leaving you to concentrate on getting better. An amount is payable if you suffer any one of 55 main Specified Illnesses or 36 Partial Payment Specified Illnesses which are listed here.
Why New Ireland?
We are the only company in the market that offers you a reduced premium if you are excluded from certain illnesses and while terms and conditions apply, we have no general exclusions. We believe that you should only pay for the cover you receive. Unlike other providers, we do not have automatic exclusions for common pursuits such as Scuba Diving, Mountaineering and Motor Sports in our policy conditions.
Once accepted, the cost of your cover will never increase during the term of your plan unless you choose to index your benefits or premiums or apply to increase your level of cover.
Under Life Choice You & Family, where Specified Illness Benefit is selected, children aged between 6 months and 18 years (21 years for children in full time education) of the life insured person are automatically covered for up to 50% of the Specified Illness Benefit at the time of diagnosis up to a maximum of €25,000, so you can rest assured everyone is protected.
You can choose to have your cover as stand alone or accelerated. In the case of Accelerated Specified Illness Benefit your Lump Sum on Death Benefit would be reduced by any amount paid under Accelerated Specified Illness Benefit.
You can even add benefits to protect yourself financially in the short-term in the event of:
- A stay in hospital (for more than 3 nights)
- An accident which leaves you unable to work (for more than 2 weeks)
- Suffering one of a number of broken bones
- Undergoing one of a number of surgeries listed
You can’t predict the future but you can plan for it
While we all hope and often believe it won’t happen to us, the reality is that people throughout Ireland are affected by unexpected illness and premature death every day.
Each year, the Claims Department sees the serious life changing and personal challenges that our customers have to face, along with the real value of having a relevant protection plan in place.
