Elements like other managed funds, invests predominately in assets which have the potential to protect against the eroding effect of inflation over the long term. However, the thing about traditional managed funds is that in order to benefit from the long term growth potential investors periodically need to endure periods of intense volatility.
In a new approach to investing, Elements is designed to deliver its return while actively managing the risk that comes from investing in company shares, property and other asset types. The Fund is designed to restrict equity exposure as markets become more volatile but allow increased exposure (still limited to 40%) as markets stabilise.
Unlike traditional managed funds, Elements is not limited to just the traditional assets of company shares, property and bonds to generate returns. Instead, it goes further and combines these asset classes with a wide range of global alternative investment options with the aim of maximising the full potential for the Fund to deliver long term returns.
Also unique to the Elements Fund is the series of measurements and rules that are set within the fund to ensure the level of risk is carefully managed over time. In practice, this means that if market volatility increases, or if things get riskier, the fund has the flexibility to be able to quickly move more of its assets into bonds and cash.
Commenting on the launch, Eoin Kennedy, Head of Products with New Ireland Assurance said; “With Elements, customers get a fund with real active management. The benchmark performance for the fund isn’t other managed funds – it is the rate that can be achieved by deposits or cash funds.”
“Our fund managers evaluate each investment opportunity based on whether they believe the asset will do a better job of beating deposits, without breaking the risk limits set for the fund. Of course in order to allow the fund manager to do this, they have to be given much greater freedom. While the maximum equity exposure for Elements is 40%, the minimum is in fact 0% – and the maximum cash position is, in theory, 100%.”
“Freed from the herd mentality caused by consensus funds and the performance league table adhered to by traditional managed funds, Elements allows us to manage our customers money the way they really want it managed – actively.”
The new innovative Elements Fund from is a unique investment fund which offers the opportunity for investors to benefit from the long term real returns offered by investing in assets such as equities, property, bonds, and alternatives – but with lower risk than typical managed funds.
