Sell in May and go away? Well perhaps not, but May certainly brought new tensions into the market as, for most of the month, markets had to digest a mixture of exceptionally positive earnings, some adverse news from the US and a heightened focus on inflation. The net outcome saw equity markets essentially flat for the month.
In our Monthly Market Review, Kevin Quinn, Chief Investment Strategist, Investment Markets, identifies eight snippets for May:
- Inflation will soar but Central Banks will ignore…
- Covid-19 news still dominates
- Commodities cooling down?
- Q1 earnings boom
- Sector rotation remains
- Bitcoin in bits
- Central Banks remain dovish but change is beginning to be signalled
- US fiscal spending ratchets
