As clients approach their retirement, one of the most important decisions that they will make is how to use their retirement savings to provide for them and their family in retirement. A number of options are available and it is important to consider various factors.
The trend that we have seen up to now is that Irish pensioners are choosing to invest in an Approved Retirement Fund (ARF) over purchasing an annuity.
Some of this can be put down to the fact that annuity rates have historically been relatively low which is a consequence of low bond yields and interest rates.
Another reason why more and more people have chosen the ARF option is the ability to simply access their retirement funds as they need them.
Change may be coming
The popularity of ARFs may change in the near future, as annuity rates are now rising due to increasing interest rates.
