After 5 months of solid gains in a row, April reminded us of some of the risks currently being faced by global stock (or equity) markets. The most prominent drivers behind April’s volatility were:

These drivers led to equity markets shedding almost 4% in value at one point in April, ending the month down 2.5%. Hardly a major correction, but, nonetheless, the largest market fall since September-October 2023 and a reminder that the significant gains made in markets in Q1 2024 came from specific parts of the world’s markets.
